How to use Treasury

Last updated: January 28, 2026

What is Treasury?

Treasury is the home page for all of your Primary-administered investments. You can use the Treasury to manage your investment allocations, make a deposit, or withdraw funds to your operating or payee accounts.

You can also review your projected returns and the liquidity profile of your funds.

How do I get cash into Primary?

On the Treasury homepage, or your Primary dashboard, you can click on “Deposit funds” to review your deposit account details and make a new deposit. You can also review your last deposit to your selected deposit account in this view.

What is an allocation?

In Treasury, an allocation is an instruction you can make on how you would like your funds to be placed into our range of yield-bearing instruments.

An allocation allows you to consider your liquidity and yield requirements, and place funds according to your organisation’s exact funding needs.

How do I make an allocation?

You can make an allocation by selecting “Manage allocations” on the Treasury dashboard.

In the “Manage allocations” experience, you can adjust the target balance on your strategic instruments by hovering over the desired instrument and clicking “Select target balance”.

When you adjust the target balance for an instrument, your portfolio may be in excess or shortfall afterwards, if you haven’t already sourced the funding required for that change from another holding.

When submitting an allocation, you need to ensure that each dollar in your portfolio has been allocated. You can do this automatically by clicking the magic wand icon in any row, which will try to source or allocate funds from that asset.

How do I make a withdrawal from Treasury?

You can make a withdrawal from Treasury by selecting “Withdraw funds” on the Treasury dashboard, or by selecting “Request a withdrawal” on the main dashboard.

When making a withdrawal, you’ll be prompted to select a withdrawal amount, a destination account, and the Treasury accounts you would like to drawdown to fund the withdrawal.

Your withdrawal will be subject to any approval requirements your organisation admin has put in place

How do I ensure funds remain optimised?

Primary now provides fine controls to help you manage your allocations across assets.

You should review their allocations following large deposits and withdrawals to ensure that cash meets your liquidity requirements.

Primary provides the ability for clients in the Treasury section of the app to view liquidity and in "Manage Allocations".

If you need support determining allocations, Primary can provide white glove support by booking a call here.

What has happened to payouts?

Payouts have been replaced by withdrawals. You may still notice some references to payouts as we migrate to this new feature.

The core functionality remains the same, and the same transaction process remains in place, including any approval requirements you may have on your accounts.
